Heavenly Holiday Cookies

1 cup shortening (room temp.)
1 cup margarine (room temp.)
2 cup sugar
1 tsp. soda
1 Tbsp. corn syrup
3 eggs (room temp.)
5 cup plain flour
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup green candied cherries
1 cup red candied cherries
1 cup chopped dates

Cream shortening, margarine and sugar until light. Add remaining ingredients one at a time in order given. (Mix in mixing bowl with all ingredients and ½ flour - put in large bowl to mix in fruit and other ½ flour.) Mix in nuts and fruit by hand. Form in small rolls and wrap in wax paper. Chill one hour or up to 3 weeks in refrigerator. (Can be frozen.) Slice and bake for 12 minutes at 375 degrees (do not over bake).
